I never seem to be able to decide what I want to eat. So instead of making food-plans and buying food once a week for several days, I go shopping every other day during my lunchbrake and just buy whatever is on sale. This way I can enjoy suprise-meals almost every day, get lots of healthy stuff (as there is ALWAYS something on sale in the fruit- and vegetable-section) and have a much fuller wallet on my way home. Buying in bulk is great, but WHAT you’re buying is just as important as HOW MUCH of it you’re getting. Boneless skinless chicken thighs are usually cheaper, and more flavorful, than breasts. They’re not as dry when cooked, and can be used in just about any recipe where chicken breasts are called for. Yeah, they’re a little higher in calories, but it’s worth it to me, because IYAMCHEAP.

Instead of going to conventional movie theaters, my sister and I take the kids (and her husband) to the drive in movie theaters to catch a new flick. It costs about 7 dollars for an adult and 1 dollar for a child under 12 years old. They have “family nights” on Tuesdays so the price is even cheaper; it comes out to less than twenty dollars for the whole family! Even if the kids fall asleep before the second movie, it’s still worth it. We even bring our own snacks and drinks.

Because the tap water in the town where I attend college is gross, I have unfortunately gotten into the (expensive) habit of buying bottled water. However, I still buy whatever happens to be the cheapest, and I make sure I return ALL the bottles so I get back my entire deposit, which I’m going to start saving to buy a decent water filter because it’s better for the environment and my wallet. Even though IYAMCHEAP now, IYAM(going to be)CHEAPer.

I live on my own. When I buy meat, I’ll get a large slab of it. I bring it home, cut it up into one-person portions, wrap it in cellophane, and freeze them. If I need meat for a meal, I’ll defrost just one portion. I only need to buy meat every month or so. IYAMCHEAP.

I always check the target clotting clearance with my coupons. The other day I had a $5 off coupon for any denim item and they had a pair of jeans on sale for $4.50. They were the wrong size (a size 0… not a 12) so I donated them to refugees that live in my area. Sure it didn’t really save me anything, but it didn’t cost either and I could feel great about donating new clothes to someone who needed them because IYAMCHEAP!

For Christmas my fiancé and I don’t have a lot to spend on presents, but we both love giving gifts. This year we did most of our shopping at the dollar store, the discount department store, and warehouse sales! For any kids in the family, we went to a toy warehouse sale. We got books for a dollar, stuffed toys for 25 or 50 cents, inflatable snow tubes for $3, and art kits for $5! The kids loved their new toys, and no one knew we spent less than $20 on everything! For Christmas my fiancé and I don’t have a lot to spend on presents, but we both love giving gifts. This year we did most of our shopping at the dollar store, the discount department store, and warehouse sales! For our grandmothers we bought body lotion, scented candles, bubble bath, and other bath essentials all at the dollar store! Then we got a reusable plastic basket and wrapped everything up in it. Each basket which would have cost over $50 in the store cost us less than $20!!!
